HISTORY OF ST PATRICK'S DAY

LEGENDS
IRISH RECIPES
IRISH HUMOR

SAINT PATRICK

Saint Patrick was the
patron saint and
national apostle of
Ireland who is
credited with bringing
christianity to Ireland.
There are many
legends associated
with St Patrick. It is
said that he used the
three-leafed
shamrock to explain
the concept of the
Trinity; which refers to
the combination of
Father, Son, and the
Holy Spirit. Saint
Patrick is most known
for driving the snakes
from Ireland.Serpent
symbols were common
and often worshipped.
Patrick's mission in
Ireland lasted for over
20 years. He died
on March 17, AD 461.
That day has been
commemorated as St.
Patrick's Day ever
since. The day's spirit
is to celebrate the
universal baptization
of Ireland.

SHAMROCK

Three was the most
sacred and magical
number.Examples of
threes:Crone, Mother
and Virgin; Love,
Valour and Wit; Faith,
Hope and Charity;
Father, Son and Holy
Spirit;past, present
and future; OR sky,
earth and underworld.
Everything good in
Ireland comes in
threes.

LEPRECHAUN
Leprechaun is an Irish
fairy. He looks like a
small, old man (about
2 feet tall), often
dressed like a
shoemaker, with a
cocked hat and
a leather apron.
Leprechauns are aloof
and unfriendly, live
alone, and pass the
time making shoes.
They also possess a
hidden pot of gold.

BLARNEY STONE

The Blarney Stone is a
stone set in the wall of
the Blarney Castle
tower in the Irish
village of Blarney.
Kissing the stone is
supposed to bring the
kisser the gift of
persuasive eloquence.
It's tough to reach
the stone -- it's between
the main castle wall
and the parapet.
Kissers have to lay on
their back and bend
backward (and
downward), holding
iron bars for support.

What do you call
an Irishman who
knows how to
control his wife?

ans:A Bachelor
*******
Courtship is a
time during which
the girl decides
whether she can
do better or not.
******
An Irish man who a
little too much to
drink is driving
home from city and
his car is weaving.
A cop pulls him
over."So where
have you been?"
asked the cop.
"I've been to the
pub, of course"
said the driver. "It
looks like you've
had quite a few to
drink" said the cop.
The driver said, "I
did alright."
Standing straight
and arms folded
across his chest,
the cop asks, "Did
you know a few
intersections back,
your wife fell out
of the car?" "Oh
thank heavens,"
sighed the driver.
"For a minute
there I thought I'd
gone deaf"
